Yesterday, a dear ‘adopted’ brother told my dad some remarkable news. Nobody in our house believed him so we decided to check it out ourselves. (Yes, we show signs of lack of faith sometimes.)
Apparently, it was true. My twin sister, Jan Angelique Maravilla, topped the April 14 Civil Service Professional exam. Let me say that again: My TWIN SISTER, Jan Angelique Maravilla, TOPPED the April 14 Civil Service Professional exam! I got ranked fourth, but hey. MY TWIN SISTER TOPPED THE NATIONAL CIVIL SERVICE PROFESSIONAL EXAM!

It’s a jaw-dropping feat. Why? Because out of the thousands who took the exam that fateful day, the Messiah chose to bless a Messiah College alumnus with the honor of getting the highest score. It’s unbelievable because a student from an unknown school bested graduates of UAAP and NCAA member-universities. You can say I’m making a mountain out of a molehill here, but I can picture my alma mater’s flag being hoisted up like a scene from the Olympics. (For some weird reason, I can hear “Onward Christian Soldiers” playing in the background as well. Must be ’cause it sounds like a marching song.) Messiah College, located in the 2/F of State Center II in Ortigas Ave., Mandaluyong City, now holds a 100% passing rate for the April 2013 exams. Not just that, we also got the #1 and #5 spots.
Be proud, Messiah College students. Stand tall, Messiah College, alumni. Hold your head up high, beloved Messiah College faculty and staff. We bear the name of the Name Above Every Name, and His name will never be put to shame. Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, our Maker, our Master, our Messiah. Soli Deo Gloria.
